ADHD is a common disorder with schoolgoing children. About 3 to 7 percent of all children are suffering from ADHD. Recent studies, however, have shown that ADHD is the only diagnosis in only 30% of all cases. Therefore, two thirds of the ADHD children must cope with extra problems, such as tics.
Every other disorder can occur together with ADHD, although there are disorders which are more concurrent than others. Such disorders are, for example, tics and the syndrom of Tourette.
ADHD and tics are often spotted together with one person. Although it looks like both are interferential, research has proven that their concurrence is merely a coincidence. For example, Tourette syndrom occurs together with ADHD quite often. About 60% of the children suffering from this syndrom, have ADHD as well.
The most important question when a child is suffering from both ADHD and tics, is which needs to treated first. In fact, you should observe which bothers the child most. Most people prefer to treat the tics first, although this is not imperative.
Medicines, such as Ritalin, admitted in high doses, aggravate the tics. Therefore, it is preferable to work with a harmless and equally efficient remedy such as Bach flowers, due to the other side effects of Ritalin as well. The flower extracts diminish the tics and ADHD symptoms e.g. concentration problems and hyperactivity.
Behaviour therapy is often used to deal with Tourette syndrom. This therapy is completely harmless too and really pays off. However, a combination of behaviour therapy and Bach flowers offer the best results in praxis without having to worry about side effects.
