If you have postponed getting pregnant because of your relationshop or your job, you may be shocked when you realise you are already in your forties and still childless. There is no denying that your chances of getting pregnant are much smaller than several years ago. After the age of 45, there is little chance of getting pregnant naturally. Yet, many women in their forties still get pregnant, whether or not with artificial insemination techniques.
Getting pregnant in your forties: the benefits
The main benefit of waiting to get pregnant, is that you are much more mature. You probably also have a larger financial certainty and you have acquired a steady job. If you have already been living with your partner for some time, you have gotten to know each other well in several situations, which provides a more solid groundwork to raise children. Some studies point to the fact that older mothers, who often have a higher degree, take wiser decisions concerning the child’s education. They even tend to breastfeed more often, and to eat healthy before getting pregnant.
As for your work situation, it is easier as well to get your position back after giving birth, than if you have only just started working. Your employer will grant you part-time work more easily too.
For people over forty years old, getting pregnant is a well-considered decision. They have had time to travel together and to acquire many experiences in life. The financial pressure you may experience as an adolescent, has generally disappeared when you are in your forties. As a parent, you are also more patient with your child and you can put things into perspective more easily. Getting pregnant at a later age does actually have benefits.
