Is there a ADHD diet?

Below is a description of an ADHD diet. It is not a strict diet, unless of course, you are used to eating fastfood all the time. It is not only a diet for the ADHDer, but it can benefit the entire family. Also ADDers may find it useful. It is a food pattern which is being used by athletes too, so as to perform well.

Research has shown that about 20% of all ADHD children as well as ADHD adults, benefit from this diet. The results can be displayed in a Gauss chart. Certain people are happy with the results, others have not noticed a thing and most people say it does improve ADHD but not sufficiently. You may consider it as a good supplement to, for instance, the Bach flower essences for ADHD. For persons with ADHD it is definitely worth a shot, it does not hurt to try, and that applies to the rest of the family as well.

What not to eat for two weeks:
1. No dairy, especially no cow milk. This is the most important restriction in the diet you need to comply with. It is best to replace milk by rice or soya milk. Far better is to simply drink water. The brain consists of 80% water, so a few extra glasses a day work miracles for people with ADHD.
2. No yellow food, such as cornflakes. Bananas are regarded as white food, not yellow.
3. No junk food, which is very bad for ADHDers.
4. Avoid sugar, which is very difficult, since sugar is an ingredient of almost all nutrients. Refrain yourself from adding extra sugar to your food, since that has a pernicious influence on ADHD.
5. No juices, since these contain much sugar as well. For example, one glass of apple juice contains as much sugar as eight apples, so it is not beneficial to ADHDers at all
6. No chocolate, due to its sugar level.
7. No candy at all, which is completely forbidden for two weeks.
8. No fried food.
9. No nutrients with colouring agents, since they influence ADHD negatively.

After two weeks, you may gradually start using the above nutrients again, preferably one at a time, so when reactions occur you know that that specific nutrient is harmful to ADHD.

Apart from a diet, Bach flowers are definitely a remedy to ease down ADHD inconveniences. Bach flowers on its own may be enough, but this diet might give you a nudge in the right direction.
